According to Candid there are currently more than 1.8 million nonprofits registered in the U.S. Those nonprofits include approximately 350K religious, 261K educational, 160K human services, 134K arts & culture, and 66K public-society benefit nonprofit organizations. These organizations work in every US community supporting our neighbors with housing, educational activities, and the entire range of social and human service supports. Yet as we’ve noted in other blog posts, nonprofits are under attack from the very government that should be supporting them.
We are federal grant experts largely because, for many nonprofits, federal grants and contracts are core revenue streams. Additionally, in some organizations, federal funding represents a significant portion of the overall operating budget, and it directly supports staff salaries, program delivery, and infrastructure.
